A Future Author?

I think we have an author in the family!

Today after school Sierra had a dentist appointment. She grabbed a notebook and pencil and we headed on our way. After her appointment we were halfway home and she said, "Mom, do you want me to read to you what I wrote on the way to the dentist?" I said, "Sure!" Here is what she wrote (FYI - be prepared for many spelling errors)

The title is Sweet Dreams ......................................................... Oragutans sleep in a pile of leaves. Lonos sleep wear ever they please. Flimgos stand on a leg to sleep. Hippos pile in a grat big heep. Horses stand state and tall. Shaks rest with eyes open wide. Black bears go into dens to hide.................. Now you have to remember she is only six and in the first grade so there are many spelling errors so I am going to type it again but fix the errors................................................................ Orangutans sleep in a pile of leaves. Lions sleep where ever they please. Flamingos stand on a leg to sleep. Hippos pile in a great big heap. Horses stand straight and tall. Sharks rest with eyes open wide. Black bears go into dens and hide. ..............................................................................Not too bad for a six year old. I was shocked when she read it to me. I said, "Did you copy that out of a book?" She said, "No, I just made it up." I was very impressed!

Hi, I just happened upon your blog page, Hello there! I just love her creativity. The mommy in me and the teacher in me both love the story! (Story? Poem? either way, it's great...) I see that you homeschooled for a long time, very interesting....maybe get her lots of fun writing instruments and colored tablets for her next special occasion? (You've probably alredy done that?!) Wow...she's a creative thinker! :) ----T

Last night I showed my husband and he said are you sure that that she didn't copy it. I told him that the only book in the car was a Junie B First Grader book - I told him that she is reading that book to me and there is nothing like that in the book. He was impressed too!
