Mother's Day - #1
As Mother's Day approaches I thought I would share daily some things I have found on being a mother. Hope you enjoy!
As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.
Isaiah 66:13
God loves us the way a good mother loves - totally unconditionally, with a nurturing ever-present care. In fact our love for our children is only a small reflection of the love God has for His people.
Because God's love is reflected in ours, our children will learn about God through a mother's love. We need to teach our children about God and His Word. We need to read them Bible stories and pray with them, answer their questions and take them to church. We need to live in such a way that they'll see what it means to be a Christian. But on a much more basic level, they'll understand about God who always hears, because when they were babies we responded to their cries. They'll be able to have faith in a God who meets their needs, because we saw that they were never hungry. God's strength and tenderness will be real to them because they caught a glimpse of it in our love, from the time they were born.
So, never let the world tell you that being a mother is not important. Remember, as we rock our babies and sing a song or lullaby, our arms and voice are God's. When we change diaper after diaper, and then grass-stained play clothers and finally school or church clothes smeared with ketchup , remember, our hands are God's hands. And when we love our children unconditionally, all the way from colic to teenage rebellion, we are loving with God's love. Through us - He will imprint Himself on our children's hearts.

Emily,
AMEN! Because I'm mostly around stay at home moms these days, I tend to forget that mothering is not necessarily considered a thing to do in our culture.
You are so right Cindy . .. I have noticed that each year I am finding more and more moms are coming home :-)
Great post. I get so frustrated when the world thinks that motherhood is not an important job and we should be working at a "real" job.
When people ask what my career is I always tell them I am a "Domestic Engineer" :-)
Emily - this is lovely! Even though I KNOW all of these things in my head, it's so nice to hear them again. Thanks for the sweet encouragement!
You are so welcome Kathy!
