Freezing Friday

Another cold front has covered our state. Today is Friday and that means riding day. I had talked to Leanna last night and we weren't sure if it was going to be too cold to ride and had decided we would see how it was around 10 am the next day (today). Well, as I was sitting in front of our fireplace drinking a hot cup of coffee the phone rings and it was Leanna . . she said, "Let's go riding!". When I got in the car I looked at the temperature and well . .. you can see how cold it was.

So, I got ready and then helped load the horses on to the trailer and then headed over to Pam's house. She has 500 acres right behind her house so we decided to ride over there today. As you can see from the next picture I was all bundled up in my warmest winter coat, a hat with the coat hat on top of that plus my gloves. There was a lot of wind which made the temperature feel even colder.

Here Leanna is lunging Cloud. This helps to calm the horses down before we start on a trail ride. Actually Cloud was a little excited because he accidentally got loose from Leanna. Thankfully he started heading down a dead end street.

We came across a herd of cows and bulls.

On the trail Leanna noticed Pam's horse Jason had lost his "bit". We couldn't believe it because first of all none of had noticed it at first and he acted so perfect without having it in mouth. I ended up getting off Farley and putting the bit back in Jason's mouth.
This particular 5oo acres butts up to my sister in laws house. As we were approaching it we heard lots of children. At first we didn't see anything and then all of sudden all these toddlers and preschoolers come streaming out of my sister in laws house.
She had her playgroup over for a belated Valentine Party.
They were kind enough to give the horses some apple slices. Here I am giving the horses their snack. Thanks Diane and Brionna for the apples.
My niece Brionna LOVES horses. She and her other Aunt (my other sister in law Leslie who happens to have 3 horses) have the most incredible bond. Leslie's love for horses has rubbed off on Brionna. She loves going over to Leslie's to see and ride Zorro and Luna - Leslie's horses. Leslie has even rode Zorro all the way to Brionna's house which is about 6 miles away so she could ride him at her house.

Brionna checking out the horses!

My sister in law Leslie - one of Brionna's Best Buddies!
After a small visit we took off down the trail again. We came upon these two cool looking trees. This picture doesn't do them justice but it looks like something that would be in a movie when you see them in person.
We then came upon a cow graveyard. One thing we have around our area is coyotes. The coyotes end up killing many of the cows. In fact, on our trail ride today we ended up running into a coyote. I couldn't get my camera to zoom in close enough to get a good picture.

For those of you who live in the flatlands of the US and have wide open trails . .I thought you would like to know that our wide open trails come with palm trees :-)
One lonely steer was separated from the rest of the herd. We are not quite sure why she was alone.

Even though it was freezing . . . it was a beautiful ride!

Now, I know that 44 is probably pretty cool for your neck of the woods, but that would be down right balmy right now for us!

What a fun day you had riding.

Tonight we have FREEZE Warnings posted. They are forecasting the 20's tonight and for us that is FREEZING! I am all honkered down for the night . . . I have my pj's on and my fluffy warm robe. A fire already started in the fireplace. I shouldn't be so cold . . .I lived in Indiana for 19 years . . .I should be use to it! :-)

Well, Farley doesn't look as though he minds the cold!

I think that cow was a bull!

Your cow graveyards, your trees that look like buzzards should be hanging around, and your palm trees . . . I can't get over the variety and enjoy seeing the pics!

Dorothy - I think you are right. He really doesn't mind the cold. He was a little bit frisky first thing in the morning but lunging him always settles him down.

Kristine - before moving to Florida I use to think of Florida of just having sand and water and of course Disney but it is truely a beautiful state with the most incredible types of God's creation.
By the way, on the way home we saw about 10 HUGE vultures that were enjoying a snack on "roadkill". No photo on that one :-)

Cindy - I think I saw 75 for this Friday. I know our warmup begins on Wednesday with a high of 78. I will pray with you that the warm weather stays through your visit. See you Friday!
