Mother Teaches Son - Son Teaches Mother

19 1/2 years ago I gave birth to my first child Jordan. For the last 19 years I have "taught" Jordan. Not only did I teach him "mom" type things but for 13 years I homeschooled him - Kinder through his senior year. Never did I think in all those years that Jordan would teach me something but today that all changed. Jordan flew in today to lead worship for our church. I picked him up today at the airport and then treated him to the restaurant of his choice - Red Lobster. After lunch we headed to the church so he could give me a lesson on the keyboard. I had 7 years of lessons and was taught music theory each one of those years so I know how to pickup a piece of sheet music and play it. What I needed help on was learning the best way to play keyboard when playing with a team. Since I know all my scales and chords it's all coming back to me very quickly. One thing I was never taught was how to change keys. Let's say a song has the chords for the key of F and I want to change it to the key of A . .. he taught me how to switch every chord in the song. . . ! He also taught me about pads and how to play them while playing the second keyboard. That helped a lot because I knew nothing about pads. He spent about an hour with me giving me some great tips and items for me to work on. Hopefully by the next time he comes to town I will have improved with his helpful tips! When we were finished I stayed for another hour and practiced while he went to the church office to see Carlos for a little bit.

I am so thankful we had that time today. We had a great time catching up during lunch and my lesson today went great! Thanks Jordan for spending the day with me and thanks for all your help! I love you!

Emily, what a joy it must be as a parent to see Jordan continuing to grow in so many different ways. :)

My kids are younger, and it's easy to forget that we still WILL have time when they get older, just different time.

So glad he can fly in for the weekend. FUN FUN with all the computers, pads, etc. I run all the sound effects and most of the loops, etc., It's NOTHING like playing "piano" (LOL)!

This is such a sweet post. I'm finding joy in this season of parenting....but I have to work to ignore the "goodbyes" - I know you know what I mean.
