Every year the city of Madeira where my cousin Mari and her family live have their 4th of July festivities on the 3rd. They start of with a one mile race that is open from the very young to the very old. Last year most of the kids and a few adults ran the race. This year my cousin Ward was the only adult of the family to run.His son Taylor was the first of the kids to cross the finish line. Then Sam! Way to go buddy!
Jamie was the first girl of our crew to come through.
Shelby was next.
Then Marika and Kaley

crossed the finish line.
Then AbigailThen last but not least Sierra!
This was a one mile run and Sierra made it in under 10 minutes.

Waiting for the parade to begin. Uncle Jim, their cousin Ted and my dad. Ted's son is author and writer Peter Baker.

Peter Baker is a reporter who moved to the New York Times in Spring, 2008 [2]. He was formerly with the Washington Post, for whom he wrote numerous front-page articles and interviewed leaders including Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice [1]. He was the Post's White House correspondent during Pres. Bill Clinton's administration, and covered the Clinton-Lewinsky controversy. He wrote a book based on his coverage, "The Breach: Inside the Impeachment and Trial of William Jefferson Clinton" (Scribner, 2000).
He served as the Post's Moscow bureau chief, and wrote a book while there, "Kremlin Rising: Vladimir Putin and the Russian Counter-Revolution."
While with the Post, Baker spent several months covering events in the Middle East and was embedded with the command of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.
He attended Oberlin College, and was a reporter for the student newspaper, the Oberlin Review
Let the parade begin!
The marching band sounded great!God Bless America!I think the kids loved the candy the best.America! America ! God shed his grace on thee!

"Look at all my candy!"
Even Dad got into the candy!
Last year Carlos wasn't able to make it to the reunion so this was his first time at this event.

Andrew was the candy champion! After the parade we all headed back to my cousin Mari's home for a party.

Also, where she lives you can see the fireworks perfectly from where the fireworks are let off from the park. So, around 9 pm we all went outside to enjoy the fireworks display.
Then it was back inside for more visiting and eating.
Travis gave the whole day a thumbs up!
My cousin Julies husband Russell came up with a great idea for a picture.
He had the whole family gather in the foyer and then had pictures taken from the balcony of the second floor.
Great idea!

Thank you so much Ray and Mari for opening your home up. Thanks for all the food and the fun!
