Mixing Things Up A Little Bit
Lisa as many of you know is the Worship Director for OHOP. She is also the main worship leader for our church . . .though we are in the process of starting to build teams up with a different person leading each team. By doing this, Lisa will be able to take some breaks. She has been the only worship leader since Jordan left in September to go to Bible and Music School so she is having to lead virtually every Sunday except for once a month when Jordan comes back in town. By building separate teams no one will get burned out plus it gives the other teams a chance to play on a Sunday morning to help out.
She has about three musician/singers who she is currently raising up as worship leaders JoAnne- who currently leads worship for the youth and a few prayer watches, Edwin - who leads a few prayer sets and Natalie - who leads one prayer set . .plus she helps out on our Encounter weekends and leads worship for them when needed. Theses new worship leaders will eventually create their own full teams and take turns leading worship for our church . They will also continue to do a few prayer sets throughout the week in our prayer room.
This morning it was Edwin's first time to lead on a Sunday morning. Edwin has been worship leader for the "Hollywood" Prayer Watch for some time now, the Global Bridegroom prayer set and a few others. He asked me back in March to start playing keys with his band for the Hollywood watch . . .and that is something I LOVE. Edwin is so easy to flow with and he is very talented too.
He did a GREAT job this morning. Carlos and I were so proud of him and we heard great comments about how he did.
Since I play in his prayer sets he asked me to play keys for him this morning. This was my first time playing the main keys for a Sunday morning service. I am so thankful for the opportunities I and others have had the last month or so to play in different settings. Esther (this was her first time to sing on Sunday morning), Nick (Edwin's brother) and Karen were the singers. Matt and Hermes played guitar and Javi played drums.
Edwin . . . congratulations on doing an awesome job! You should be very proud of yourself. And to all the other musicians and singers . . .. way to go!!!
PS: I am sure you all are wondering what is a "Hollywood" Prayer Watch. Well, every Saturday night from 10 - 12 midnight Edwin and our team lead worship for this watch. Esther who was singing today is the Prayer Watch Leader. We end up taking those two hours and praying for different celebrities. Esther usually comes up with who we are praying for and then we bombard the heavens for their souls! I have always felt lead to pray for the celebrities so when Edwin ask me to play keys for his team . . . I gladly accepted . .. it was right up my alley!

Emily,
I can't tell you how exciting and healing it was for me and Jamie to read this blog entry today. We just left our church last week, in part because of the stranglehold it had on worship. Jamie is a worship leader and the pastor had been placing more and more contraints on him and the whole music team, denying people's gifts, trying to control the worship more and more tightly and refusing to sanction growth.
It was so liberating to read of how Lisa is developing new, strong worship teams because that is exactly what we were trying to do until we were stopped.
No wonder your church is so enthusiastic and has grown so much with you and Carlos being so encouraing to the people who serve the Lord, like Edwin.
And well done, yourself, for getting back on those keys!
