Landon's letter to author to Jeanne DuPrau
Some of you asked me to post the letter that Landon wrote to author Jeanne DuPrau so I am :-) Also, she responded a few days ago so I am including her response back to him.
Dear Ms. DuPrau,
My name is Landon and I am a fifth grade student. I began reading City of Ember a couple weeks ago. I am now on the third book - The Prophet of Yonwood. I am fascinated by your books and how you put them together.
I thought of another sequel to City of Ember just in case you need another idea. I thought that maybe Tick could come back to the City of Sparks and he would take it over. Then, Lina and Doon would have to find a way with the people of Sparks to find a way back to Ember where everything would be destroyed. They would then have to find a way to rebuild the city and survive. Another possibility would be instead of rebuilding the city they would have to go to the unknown regions and find the city that Lina always drew about in her pictures.
I look forward to reading more of your books. I hope you like my idea and maybe you would write another story . . the fourth one.
One of your biggest fans,
Landon
PS I am writing this on my moms email address. Also, here is a link to our family blog and you can see me with your book that I am reading now .Emily's 5 Blessings

Dear Landon,
Thank you so much for your very nice e-mail. I'm glad you like my books! You sound like a thoughtful and creative reader.
Your idea for another Ember sequel is interesting--and the truth is, I am writing a fourth book, which I hope will be finished pretty soon. When you read it, you'll see whether any of your ideas are the same as mine.
Thanks also for the link to your family blog. That's a great picture of you holding my book!
Yours sincerely,
Jeanne DuPrau

Emily! I didn't recognize the author at first but have to chime in - we LOVE the City of Ember. A friend discovered it and gave us the first and second books as gifts last Christmas. We read them aloud. How neat that she wrote Landon back! What a responsive author. I didn't realize there was a third book. I'll have to check it out.
He was thrilled that she did write back. Landon's teacher called me today - she wanted me to email her both letters so she could read them out loud to the class. Landon told me this afternoon that his letter writing has motivated other students to write their favorite author's.
