My annual trip to Hallmark!

Once a year in November I head to Hallmark to make my special purchase of 5 Hallmark Christmas Ornaments. The Saturday after Thanksgiving is our annual "Decorate the House Day!". In the evening, after a long day of decorating, we have a tradition of having Chinese take in and watching a Christmas movie. After the movie we pass out the kids "new" ornaments and all the ones from past years. The kids LOVE this and look forward to it each year. Today was Hallmark's Open House so they are having great specials - I ended up getting a free ornament. I love browsing through all the ornaments finding a special one for each child. I try to have it relate to something that has happened in this year. Inside this bag holds the ornaments for this year. I can't show them to you yet because my kids read my blog :-) , so you will have to wait until after our decorate the house day.

Emily, looks like a fun day! We also buy each child a new ornament every year, but they don't get to open them until Christmas.

Sounds fun! We do something similar with the Thanksgiving weekend.

My mom has made a point of buying us all an ornament every year. I buy a photo ornament each year. Last year we decorated solely with past Christmas picture ornaments.

Our tree is getting to that point too. I figure in the next few years it will be mainly all the kids Hallmark Ornaments that are on the trees. Plus, the ones that have been given to me by my parents. Mom my gives me a new Hallmark ornament each year.

We don't buy an ornament each year, but the kids go to Grandma's house and make an ornament each year. I had always wanted to start the tradition of buying a special ornament and somehow never got around to it. Now dd will graduate this year... hmmmmm... maybe I need to start thinking about that being a tradition of giving them an ornament each year after they've left home?

That a GREAT idea. I was trying to decide how to handle Jordan this year since he graduated. I wasn't sure if I would stop when once the kids graduated but I just couldn't. I guess I will do it forever - and someday when they are married - I will buy one for the two of them.
