Deep Cleaning Cont - The Laundry Room

I just received a phone call from Carlos and he just landed in New York. I was going to try to finish Jordan's room and the guest bath but it is not happening today. I was able to finish the Laundry room while the kids played outside after school. Washed walls, baseboards, scrubbed down cabinets, washer and dryer and counter top, vacuumed the floor and washed down the two doors. I had already washed windows on this side of the house last week. Well, the house is too clean to cook so we are going to go out tonight to Friendly's.

Ok... Emily.... I want to know where you hide all the piles of "STUFF"? You must be quickly carting it around from room to room just ahead of the camera (LOL)! Seriously, I wish I had each room as orderly as you. I would be a lot more productive and at peace. You've motivated me to get some HELP! I always try to do it all and I can't... so I tried to call a few cleaning people today.... went through EIGHT of them and NO ONE has any openings.... I guess I'll have to do it myself afterall...

Wow- I feel honored :-) You are the Queen of Order and Orangization - you are my MENTOR! Honestly, I have very few piles in my house. I can't function with a mess. Now, I do want my house to be livable - so when we are all 7 at home things come out but they are put away before we go to bed at night. I have 2 hotspots as Flylady calls them - that I have to watch - my dresser and my nightstand. If I am not careful they will start to pile up. Also, I noticed that I need to clean out some of my cabinets which will be my NEXT project :-) Also, when I homeschooled the kids it was very difficult to deep clean like I am doing - but with the kids in school it does make it easier.
My sister hired someone last year to do the things she didn't like to do - windows, baseboards, shower and tubs, floors - she said she will never go back to doing those things - it has saved her so much time.

Well... you must have missed all of my posts on how far behind I am... the downfall all started when I organized the homeschool convention 1.5 years ago - a year long project! THEN... Hurricane Katrina hit and I spent a good 8 months last year organizing relief work teams and things from here... having 2 FT volunteers in Gulfport with the homebase here... THEN the homeschool co-op this year. ALL of these things took MUCH TIME away from my house organizing and cleaning. We're starting to get things back under control though. I also don't function well with clutter. I think I'll post rooms as I finish... but I suppose it would only be fair to post the before pictures as well (LOL).

I was going to post before pictures but actually everything was put away - it was just the deep cleaning that I was working on and so when I went to take a before picture- it looked pretty much like the after :-)

Hi Emily, that is definitely some deep cleaning you've been doing. I've done baseboards, but I've never actually washed my walls, do you use a cleanser? if so, what kind? Are all your walls semi-gloss? We still rent and I'm not sure if the walls can be washed with water, maybe just a damp cloth.(?) not sure, and do you use a cloth or a brush on your baseboards? I'm not the best at keeping my house in order, but I'm trying to improve my domestic skills. (have a long way to go!)
thanks.

Hey Sandy,

When I clean my baseboards I use paper towels and Windex. The key is to do them more than once a year. Really it's good to clean them once a season - if not more. I usually will work on extra on one room a week when I am not deep cleaning - I usually will do a quick cleaning of them - this helps to keep the dust and dirt down. Also, we used Egg Shell paint - it's kind of like a Satin Finish. I just use a damp cloth and almost everything comes off. Hope this helps! Emily :-)

Emily!

When you finish your deep cleaning, can you PLEASE come to England and do mine for me?

I'll show you round London and take you out for a curry afterwards as a thank you!

Dorothy will have to wait in line because you're coming to MT, first right?
